The full story is this: The cop cut off the Uber driver and then parked without signaling he was getting over. Uber driver honks with a gesture not seen on camera, and the cop snaps on Uber driver, shown above.
I'm on the Uber driver's side. Despite getting the blowdryer treatment by an abusive cop, he kept his cool. I hope roid rage detective gets what's coming to him.

Shouldn't have slammed the guy's door but honestly, some people need to get chewed out by the Police. Also, we clearly missed the beginning of this interaction, without which a full opinion cannot be formed. BUT, right in the start of the video the driver is clearly talking back and raising his voice. That = big no no.
The way he was just saying "okay", as if he didn't give a shit what the Cop had to say, does come off as a disrespectful. You can't display a, "I don't give a shit about your power, finish up with what you have to say" attitude, even if that is what you are thinking. Because then they will make you give a shit like the Cop just did.

If the driver did something wrong, there would have been at least a citation. Fuck this pig.

From what I read, the officer was parallel parking in an unmarked car. At the time, he was sitting there - no signal, no reverse lights.
The driver did what any of us would have done. Honked the horn, and (optional) flipped him the bird.
I side with the driver.
Cop was a dick, and he is being reprimanded for his behavior.

Why chew him out if he committed a traffic violation? Just give him a ticket, no? The way the cop asks, "How long have you been in this country?" showed that the cop was just on some sort of power trip.

I've been chewed out worse by cops.
probably deserved it more than this guy though.

That's the thing for me. What it appears the guy did was minor (pulling around a car that was doing a poor job of parking). The cops reaction you think he was murdering puppies in the gutter.

I disagree, I think what happened here was a bit of a cultural misunderstanding that prompted the Cop to ask that. Someone who has been here two years really doesn't know how to deal with the Police. Think about it bro. If you got pulled over and the Cop came over and started chewing into you, would you talk back and hit him with a bunch of "okay" with a "Yeah whatever" attitude? Hellllllll no! You'd shut the hell up and just take it! Watch the start of the video, driver was clearly trying to talk over the Cop and talk back to get his piece in.
I'm not saying it was right, just looking objectively.

Nah like I said a full opinion cannot be formed. I'm just looking at it objectively and taking no sides.

Cultural misunderstanding, so what? Not every new person here is going to respond to input/feedback the same way. Tons of other people, who have been born and raised in the U.S. try to explain themselves at a traffic stop. If somebody who has been here for two years, shouldn't they be shown more kindness for that? Is this the kind of image they should witness of police?
Couldn't the officer have said to the Uber driver, "I want you to listen to what I am telling you, allow me to speak first, then when it is your turn to speak, I will let you know." He couldn't have said something similar along those lines in a firm, kind manner to the driver?

It's a pet peeve of mine, that's all. I don't like it when people rest their feet on anything but the floor in my vehicles.

Why do you keep capitalizing police and cop like they're God? Yes, if I had this pig aggressively trying to start shit with me, I would be talking back. I'd probably be way less polite than this driver was. I would probably have actually called the police during the encounter to report that I am being harassed and let uniformed police show up so at least there would be some kind of report of the incident. Having a badge is not a free pass. This could be considered menacing in the second degree according to Article 120.14 of New York penal law.

NYPD cops are immune to video evidence. Eric Garner proved that.

The cop didn't immediately give proof he was an officer. I'd think something is up if someone attempted to pull me over in a Hyundai with LED's.

I'll give you a pass this time but....
The way he was just saying "okay", as if he didn't give a shit what the Cop had to say, does come off as a disrespectful. You can't display a, "I don't give a shit about your power, finish up with what you have to say" attitude
... is no where close to objective. I didn't hear anything in his tone that sounded remotely like what you describe. Beyond that, since when did cops get to dictate what treatment toward them is 'respectful' and what is not and when did getting sassy about what you were doing become a criminal offense? NYPD keeps beating their heads against this issue because the culture is 'I spoke it therefore it's lawful.' It's absolute power by decree.
That's not how it works in our country.
These behaviors have been going on for decades to the existing minorities and have been going on for centuries (when they were different minorities) and PD always got away with it because it was the word of the upstanding officer bound to uphold the Constitution of the United States versus low life foreigner scum.
Hand held video is changing that. PD doesn't like it. We've seen time and time again they simply are not responsible for their bad behavior within their PD culture. We all have to put up with whatever comes our way 'because police work is hard.' Lots of work is hard. Lots of work is deadly. Lots of work brings people face to face with the worst of humanity. But there really isn't any other profession other than police work that can rob citizens of their life and liberty.

Cop was being a dick. Only reason the guy got a ticket is because he flipped off a cop.

Let's just be clear, the Police are not there to be your friend. Should they be kind? Sure, when the opportunity presents itself. But they are under no obligation to be "nice."
He sure could have said that to the guy, but he didn't have to.

If you're going to refer to police as pigs and put words in my mouth, then our conversation is over. Go talk back to an officer next time you get pulled over and film it for me.
I think you're blowing this way out of proportion. Menacing for basically just telling the guy to shut up and let him speak? lmaoooo
If this is abuse, then I don't know what the hell you'd call my interactions with police during pull overs. I've gotten it 10x worse than this guy did. You know what I did? I sat there and shut up and took it, all while my phone was recording.
Then I requested a trial over my ticket and brought my audio, got it dismissed. I have the audio too if you would like it. MUCH worse than what this guy got.
This guy honestly got off pretty easy compared to what I've been through. And all he had to do was shut up for a second and let the cop monologue.
I DO think slamming the door was VERY much a step over the line. That you could call abuse.

First of all, no need to talk down and "give me a pass" as if your opinion and judgment is worth more than mine.
And how is that not objective? You try talking to someone and have them keep saying "ok" every 3 seconds and watch how mad you get.
And I don't know what planet you have been living on but that IS how our country works. You should check out my article on dealing with the police.
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/drivers-licens…
What you are describing is your ideal world. The FACT is that when you get stopped by Police, they have absolute power. I'm not saying I'm happy about it, but that is how it is. If you fight back or resist police when stopped, they are going to come back at you 10x harder. That is exactly what happened to this guy. He tried to talk back so he got chewed out hard.
I reiterate, I'm not taking sides, nor am I happy about what happened. But the fact is that when you get pulled over, the Cop has ALL the power. Not only that, but they can pretty much do what they want and the courts will BACK them IF you resist/talk back/fight back.
Look at the Garner case. The Police killed that man! But because he resisted even slightly, he got it. He should have just got on the ground and complied. Then if he really was innocent, he has a slam dunk false arrest case and will be $30-40,000 richer.

Exactly, and in the court room. The time to fight is not in the situation, it is after. But if you fight then, you lose your chance to fight.

I'm going to continue to refer to bad cops as pigs. It's a fitting description. They should not be afforded any more respect than they are willing to provide to the community they are supposed to serve. This cop (not a proper noun) is a pig. I don't care if you've gotten it worse. So have I. That does not make it right, it does not excuse his behavior, and it does not change the fact that he unlawfully pulled someone over (yes, unlawfully as shown by the lack of a citation) to harass him. This is menacing in the second degree in New York according to the law I cited. I'd quote it here, but Kinja is being Kinja and not liking the text. Since you seem to think that I'm just whining about cops because that's what people do, let me give you a tl;dr of some of my non-traffic experiences with them:
Assaulted at a permitted protest of a power plant being built in the everglades
Repeatedly pulled over forcibly by no less than nine cars on my way to another one because I "looked suspicious"
Waited over a half of an hour after being assaulted and mugged within a half mile of a substation and the Perkins where they all hang out (once they showed up, they tried repeatedly pressuring me into changing my descriptions of the muggers to say that they were all black so they could go beat up some darkies or something)
Attended a counter-protest to a KKK rally that was (I shit you not) organized by the FBI in order to get information on people protesting the KKK. During this, the police trampled our counter-protest on horseback, sending several of my friends to the hospital with broken bones, but not until after hours of being cuffed in the back of a paddy-wagon
Recorded a bunch of off-duty cops who were in a band - every single one of them spent the entire session bitching about how much they hated cops, relaying stories of the abuse they see, and otherwise confirming that pretty much all cops are scum
You know what I've never seen a cop in the US do? Help people. I love firemen. Everyone loves firemen. If you get into an accident and call 911, they'll be there before the police. When they're not busy, you see them on the side of the road collecting money for charity. I don't know why you think that the police are as a whole automatically deserving of respect, but until they start treating people as they would like to be treated and as long as videos like this keep coming out, their support amongst the public they are supposed to serve will continue to wane, and with good reason.
I'm not saying that all cops are bad. I think that most are, and you can disagree with me on that. I could be wrong, but I've never seen anything to suggest the opposite. I never call them pigs as a blanket term. I specified that this cop is a pig, and until I see evidence of the contrary, I'm sticking with it.
